The registration technique gives a rational basis for reconstructing a damaged or missing dentition in an anatomo-physiologically correct relation to the temporomandibular joint. The same registration method has been proved efficient in the diagnosis of occlusal disharmonies associated with periodontal disease and temporomandibular joint disorders.

The registration technique itself is based on methods and theoretical considerations which have been known for many decades but which have been modified to meet the requirements of modern diagnosis and therapy of the occlusion.
